Course Title: Implementing an EMS based on ISO 14001:2004
This two day course introduces the concepts needed to understand, develop, and implement a management system. This course covers the ISO 14001 family of standards. Experienced instructors with real life experience explain how to build a successful management system and integrate it into the current business framework, prepare for, and achieve ISO 14001:2004 registration. Exercises prepare delegates to identify key requirements, create winning documentation, develop project plans, and prepare a scope map, gain top management and employee buy-in, and all at minimum time, effort and cost.

Course Pre-requisitesLearning Objectives
- Prior knowledge of ISO 14001:2004 would be recommended.
- At the end of the course they will have all the skills they require to develop their company's EMS Project Implementation Plan that meets the needs of that organisation up to and including formal registration to ISO 14001 and/or EMAS
Course Structure
This course is a 16 hour/2 day course.
Course Start: 08:45a.m & Course Finish: 17:30p.m
Evening study may be required as part of this course. It is recommended that all delegates attending treat the course as residential.

Day 1
- Business reasons for environmental management
- The EMS standards - ISO14001 and EMAS and what they mean for a business
- Undertaking an initial environmental review
- Core planning aspects of environmental management - regulatory and impact issues
- Developing an effective environmental policy
- Developing and delivering meaningful objectives and targets
- Analysing and establishing operational controls
- Building an effective communication, training and awareness program
- The importance of managing change
- Making sense of EMS auditing
- Understanding the certification / verification process
- Defining the next steps - achieving continuous improvement with an EMS
Course Assessment
The delegate is assessed based on participation and performance throughout the duration of the course. This includes all exercises, role plays, case studies and all other activities during the course. Please note, full attendance is required during the training course.
